Luke's New Wagon....

Luke's big 2nd birthday is coming up July 21....Marc and I decided we'd get him a wagon for his birthday. We bought it this past Sunday night. Since he's only 2 and still really doesn't understand the concept of his birthday AND the fact that we know he'll be getting other things from family members, we decided to go on ahead and give it to him.

So, this past Monday evening while I was at my women's summer Bible Study at church, Marc assembled it. Luke got acquainted with the wagon in the house first.





Marc did take him for a "spin" around the block that night. According to Marc, Luke LOVED it. Two neighbors also witnessed Luke LOVING his new wagon.

So, here's another story with which I promise will end with the new wagon....

Sometime this past spring, a very nice gentleman at church offered Marc and our friend Joel (Smith) some opportunity for tree-cutting on his property. In turn, this tree-cutting would end with some very nice firewood for the winter.

Marc and Joel took him up on it, and since our friends Dave and Amanda also burn a fireplace in the winter for warmth (like ourselves and the Smith family), Dave joined in on this tree-cutting.

So, the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, the three guys (Marc, Joel, and Dave) all spent several hours in the blazing heat cutting down wood to keep all of our families really warm this coming winter.

The three guys really did get quite a bit of wood; however, the "logs" needed to all be split for firewood. Fortunately, Dave has a "splitter."

Therefore (are you following me yet?), for these past two Tuesday evenings, Marc and Joel have been using Dave's "splitter" to prepare the logs for winter.

This photo was taken here at our house; however, most of the work has been done at the Smith house.



Anyways, while the guys have been splitting wood, Luke and I have been "hanging out" with Kendall and the two Smith kids, Ollie and Lily.

Since Luke had just received his wagon the night before, we took it along for a ride.

Kendall and I KNEW we needed to strap in Luke and Lily -- they're young enough to NOT fully understand that they need to stay seated.

We worked on convincing Ollie to just walk. Nope -- he wanted to ride as well. In fact, he wasn't the happiest of campers about NOT getting a seat. But, Kendall convinced him to sit in the middle.



Finally, the kids were settled, and we were off....I took the first "pull" of the wagon with the three kiddos.





Then, Kendall took her turn....If you look closely at this photo, Ollie doesn't look very happy. If I remember correctly, this was when Ollie was asking to go back home. We told him we were going to walk for awhile. Then, we'd go back for ice cream....That seemed to appease him just fine! Yep, that frown you see in the photo did turn into a smile at the thought of ice cream.



After awhile, Ollie decided he wanted to pull the wagon....

So, with a little supervision....





Ollie did an EXCELLENT job, and Luke and Lily didn't mind a bit as to who was pulling the wagon. The only thing that Kendall and I had to do (besides watch for cars) was to periodically remind Ollie to watch where he was going to avoid running over curbs.

I'm sure there will be MANY fun times with this wagon! Lily will be playing with Luke some this fall when Kendall is teaching her Pre-K class. The wagon will be great for me to go to the park with Luke and Lily.
