Our friends, Joel and Kendall, threw together a little party for the 4th....
The party involved 5 couples and all of the small children, but unfortunately, one couple was unable to make it because of sick children (we missed you Jordan's).
Originally, the party was going to take place at the Smith's house. But, if you haven't realized it yet (for those of you readers who live away from here), it RAINED quite a bit this past weekend.
So, another couple at this party, the Tracy family, offered their property as a back-up plan. Jason and Sarah recently moved out into the country. They have some land, and most importantly, they have a LARGE shed. This large shed could've been used for small children to run around in if it rained.
We ended up going to the Tracy's place.
It worked out really well....It stopped raining long enough for a great grilled supper and some actual outdoor playing.
Nearly ALL of my photos involve Luke, Oliver, and Lily playing outside and getting very dirty.
This is the one photo that is not of a human child....Yes, we did see some cows.
But, here are the other photos from the evening....
Lily, playing in dirty water -- which Luke did as well.
Then, Luke and Lily spent quite a bit of time on this slide....
If you look closely at this photo, you can see that Luke's pants are almost completely wet, and there is some mud on his leg....
Luke did NOT mind getting wet and dirty; however, shortly after that photo was taken, he headed over to a BIG mud puddle. He ended up falling in. At that point, there were tears. He absolutely did NOT like having the mud cover his sandals and feet.
So, we ended up taking his shirt off and hosing him off. He then ran around without a shirt on....I guess that's an advantage to having a boy (and yes, there are advantages as well -- we LOVE our little guy).
Shortly after his shirt was taken off, Luke discovered a lawnmower. Now, Luke LOVES not only trains right now, but also, lawnmowers. He literally stood and stared and this lawnmower for a good 20 minutes (basically until I said, "Let's go").
Perhaps Luke gets his love of lawnmowers from his friend, Oliver. Oliver has talked about lawnmowers with me for quite some time now. Maybe Luke was listening to all of our conversations about lawnmowers.
So, while Luke was staring at the push mower, Oliver was sitting on the riding lawnmower.
Shortly after that, it was time to head to the city fireworks. We, however, opted out. Luke was getting tired; therefore, we headed on home.
But, since Luke was still wet, we just stripped him down to his diaper to go home. Isn't that what summers are for?
Thanks again Smith's for planning this party. Thanks to the Tracy family for your place as a "back-up" plan.
And, it was good to get to know you better Jeff & Jess.
