If you read my LAST POST, you know we had a pretty busy Saturday this past weekend.
To continue on from the previous post....
So, after the race, we went home briefly and showered -- that would be because the race was hot and humid, and we probably didn't smell the greatest.
Marc then checked the radar and saw that there wasn't going to be any rain for a bit. So, we headed off to Newton's annual 4th of July parade as part of the Chisholm Trail Festival.
We got there in plenty of time to get a decent spot. We waited and waited for awhile. Finally, we saw the parade coming.
We always stand up for the American flag!
Then, of course, we had the fire engines....which Luke did NOT get scared and cover his ears for :)
There were quite a few high school and jr. high school kids on floats....It's nice to see local athletes participate in community events!
And, if you know us well, you'll know this is one of our favorites -- especially for Marc!
And, as in most parades -- the Shriners.
And, if you remember from THIS POST, Luke recently received a new wagon. So, we took this new wagon to the parade. It worked well. In fact, it worked so well that Luke preferred the wagon over the parade.
The main thing that did get him out of the wagon, however, was a train...Luke was chased down twice during this parade when he ran into the street because he heard a train.
But, after one of the trains (when Marc chased Luke down), Luke did spend a wee bit of time in my arms....So, I definitely took advantage of that. And, Marc even snapped what I think is a cute photo of us. I don't have too many photos of Luke and me. So, I must take advantage of it. It's now my Facebook profile pic.
Some folks in our church have a great new ministry called Grace Riders....a motorcycle ministry. This group was in the parade, and Marc and I have to say that it was really neat to see them in the parade. And, we really liked their t-shirts. Can we get one even though we don't ride motorcycles?
Lastly, we saw the horses....Luke did watch the horses closely -- in other words, he made repeated horse sounds -- mainly from his wagon, of course.
In the evening, we headed to my parents' house for a 4th of July BBQ. Unfortunately, it pretty much rained most of the time; therefore, we had the BBQ indoors. The only outdoor activity involved my dad taking Luke on a wagon ride -- in the short span of time it didn't rain.
But, the grilled burgers still tasted good!
And, unfortunately, I managed to NOT snap even one photo at my parents' house....So, you'll just have to trust us that we had a nice time with them.
For those of you who don't live here -- it has RAINED and RAINED and RAINED this past weekend. It's definitely not been a normal Kansas 4th of July.
And, for those of you east coast readers -- you can keep your 100 degree heat out east! I may not care for the flooding rains, but I do like the cooler temperatures.

That is a great pic of you and Luke!
Graham also loves his wagon! I used it at the zoo last week. I'll have to post pics one of these days...
