Welcome....Here's a glimpse of our happenings!

The verses that have REALLY spoken to me (Sarah) lately....

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." Matthew 7:24-25

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. I Peter 5:8-9

From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.' Acts 17:26-28

May the words of my mouth and the mediation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock, and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14

So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. Walk in all the way that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess. Deuteronomy 5:32-33

God, our God, will take care of the hidden things but the revealed things are our business. It's up to us and our children to attend to all the terms in this Revelation. Deuteronomy 29:29 (The Message)

About the Friesen's....

We are Marc, Sarah, Luke, and Kate Friesen. We were married June 5, 2004. We have one son, born July 21, 2008, named Luke Andrew -- now 4 years old. We also have a daughter named Kate Christine -- born June 6, 2012. Marc is working at Cessna as a Senior Accountant, and Sarah stays home full-time with Luke. Sarah also gets to work very part-time at home for Graber Backhoe -- an excavation company AND VERY part-time at our church. We LOVE being a part of Grace Community Church here in Newton, KS. We lead a Community Life Group of other wonderful couples. Marc thoroughly enjoys long-distance running and Taekwondo. Sarah thoroughly enjoys walking -- especially when the weather is nice to take Luke and/or out in the stroller. Thanks for reading our blog!

Stuff for a Monday....

So, I decided that one thing I'd like to do this year is to, each Monday, post our family meal plan for the week.

I know, I know -- this is nothing new. Many of you plan out meals each week the same way I do....But, I thought maybe I could give a few ideas if you're stuck in a dinner rut, and perhaps some of you could do the same to give me a few ideas because sometimes, I'm stuck in a dinner rut (hint hint).

If you'd like any recipes from me that I either don't post or don't link, leave me a comment with your e-mail address (if I already don't have your contact info). I'll gladly send you a recipe or two. I don't own any secret recipes.

A few things, though....

a) I don't typically plan out lunches during the week -- only weekends when Marc is home. With only one child who's only 17 months old, we don't really need meal planning for him yet. Typically, Luke and I just find something around the house for lunch.

b) If you ever see the word "rummage" in our plan, that means that each person is on his or her own to find something to eat (not to eat out, though). There's plenty of "rummaging" type food in our home, generally speaking.

c) I don't ever plan desserts except if we have guests over for supper or if it's a special day (holiday, birthday, etc.)

With all of that in mind -- here goes....

Luke has recently taken to bringing all of his toys into the kitchen to play with. I guess it's because I'm in there quite a bit.

This is what I had in my kitchen this morning by 9:30, and it only increased after I took these photos.

Funny Funny Luke!

Marc and I should really just laugh about these toys. We talk often about how we want to establish a "hospitable home" -- you know, one of those homes people feel welcome in. We know that by the mere shape and layout of our home, the kitchen is often a gathering place (as it is in many homes). I guess Luke is starting that "gathering place" feel. He has recently really taken to being in there with me -- no matter what I'm doing.

And for today's dose of thankfulness -- it's #921 -- smoke alarms.

Currently, we have two main smoke alarms in our home. And, Marc is EXCELLENT at checking the batteries and checking the functionality of these alarms. Did I mentioned that he is EXCELLENT at that? That's something that makes me feel safe.

In fact, he recently completely replaced one of our smoke alarms, and I know he's getting ready to replace another one this month.

Also, one of our alarms is also a carbon monoxide alarm....also, something to feel a little safer about.

Anyways, I am thankful for smoke alarms. Fortunately, I've never had to exit a house because of a fire. But, I'm glad for them to hopefully wake me up or warn me if a fire is ensuing.

Not quite 9 years ago, my aunt and uncle (who live in Oregon) had their house burn down. Thankfully, an alarm did warn my aunt (who was home by herself) of the fire. She was able to escape without harm.

Have you tested your smoke alarms lately? If not, do so today. Don't delay!

(And yes, you too can now "wince" at our ugly wallpaper in our kitchen. Someday, we'll replace it, but that's not on our goal list for this year).

I look forward to reading your meal plans. I can always use ideas.

I totally agree with you about the smoke alarms!! We had that house fire this past year. They don't have smoke alarms in the homes in South Africa and we coudn't find them anywhere. Thank God Joel woke up, without a smoke alarm. That fire would have gotten out of control in a hurry!!!! Praise God!

Mmmmm, we LOVE Meg's crescent chicken! A little fruit on the side and we are jolly happy! Thanks for the other menu ideas!

Yep, I've tested our smoke alarms.... uh, my roast the other day smoked a bit {no idea why}. The alarms worked. :-D

Meal planning...that is something I need to get much better about. I have been in a cooking rut lately myself. The "I don't want to cook" rut!! ;) Looking forward to seeing your plans, in hopes that it will motivate me. Meg's crescent chicken is a big hit at our house as well!!! Hope you are all off to a great 2010!
