Happy Memorial Day!
I hope that today was not just a) the kick-off to summer or b) merely a long weekend, BUT that it was a weekend to truly remember those who have died in serving and protecting our country!
Though I've always known what Memorial Day was all about, I know that I certainly haven't, throughout most of my life, truly appreciated the day!
However, the older I get -- the MORE I truly am thankful for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country!
Our weekend has been spent together as a family. Marc took this past Friday off, and he also took tomorrow (Tuesday, 05/31) off. It's been wonderful to spend time together.
We were also able to spend time with my parents and brother and sister-in-law (and their three kids) last night.
I'm NOT at all crafty and creative, but for supper at my parents' last night, I managed to "throw together" this flag cake....it's not the greatest, but for me, it's pretty spectacular.
It's short on two "stars" and three "stripes," but you get the point!
Here in our little town of Newton, KS, at the city cemetery, they do a nice job (we think) for Memorial Day. There are MANY flags up, and all of the veterans' graves have flags.
After lunch, the three of us went to the cemetery to see the flags. Neither Marc nor I know of any relatives buried there, but it's nice to drive through. This time, at the request of Luke, we parked the car and got out to see the flags up close. Luke had a HARD time not touching them.
I have some other thoughts on Memorial Day, but I'll save them for another post....this post will already be too long :)

In the meantime, I haven't posted a meal plan in two weeks, and it's NOT because we haven't had one. I just haven't gotten it posted.
