Welcome....Here's a glimpse of our happenings!

The verses that have REALLY spoken to me (Sarah) lately....

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." Matthew 7:24-25

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. I Peter 5:8-9

From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.' Acts 17:26-28

May the words of my mouth and the mediation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock, and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14

So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. Walk in all the way that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess. Deuteronomy 5:32-33

God, our God, will take care of the hidden things but the revealed things are our business. It's up to us and our children to attend to all the terms in this Revelation. Deuteronomy 29:29 (The Message)

About the Friesen's....

We are Marc, Sarah, Luke, and Kate Friesen. We were married June 5, 2004. We have one son, born July 21, 2008, named Luke Andrew -- now 4 years old. We also have a daughter named Kate Christine -- born June 6, 2012. Marc is working at Cessna as a Senior Accountant, and Sarah stays home full-time with Luke. Sarah also gets to work very part-time at home for Graber Backhoe -- an excavation company AND VERY part-time at our church. We LOVE being a part of Grace Community Church here in Newton, KS. We lead a Community Life Group of other wonderful couples. Marc thoroughly enjoys long-distance running and Taekwondo. Sarah thoroughly enjoys walking -- especially when the weather is nice to take Luke and/or out in the stroller. Thanks for reading our blog!

The Pledge of Allegiance

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance. Psalm 33:12

In THIS POST on Memorial Day, I mentioned that I had some thoughts on Memorial Day. I still am working them out (at least to put on a post)....

In the meantime, how about a glimpse into something we (especially Marc) are working on with Luke. (and this goes along with Memorial Day -- as well as a few other special days throughout the year)....

*****

Ever since I've known Marc (8 years now), Marc's always been pretty good (when he's home and the weather is cooperating) about putting up the American flag at our house.

In the last 6 months or so, Marc has been working with Luke on this very task.

Luke LOVES putting up the flag with Marc. In fact, Luke has recently requested his own small flag to put up with our big flag.

(And yes, in these photos, Luke's in his pajamas -- this all takes place in the morning)....

First, Marc & Luke head outside with their respective flags (notice Luke's little flag in his hands)....

Second, Marc puts both flags up with Luke intently watching....

Third, they both place their hands on their hearts to say The Pledge of Allegiance.

(This would be the part that brings tears to my eyes....It's SO precious to hear. Marc says one line; Luke repeats it in his own little almost 3-year old voice).

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Lastly, Marc and Luke pray for our nation; for our troops serving, protecting, and defending our country; for Congress and other elected people; and for our President.

At this point, I could completely and utterly get on a "soap box" about our country, the flag, etc....I know that, at times, it can be controversial.

But, I won't -- not on this blog. I don't want to turn this blog into something too political.

However, I do want to most definitely encourage prayer for our country.

Even if you don't always agree with everything that goes on (we certainly don't always), prayer is ALWAYS needed for our country.

And, our President -- can generate a very controversial discussion (and we've been known to have our opinions expressed at certain times -- most people who know us know where we stand on this topic)....But, our President does have an extremely hard job. Many of his decisions affect not only our country but around the world.

So, like our President or not; like or country or not; like the flag or not -- prayer IS important.

AND, this Mama LOVES the fact that Luke is learning at a young age to pray for our country.

Well I'll be the bad guy. First, I affirm the importance of praying for our national leaders and confess that I don't do enough of it. But after reading this post, I wonder which act--the prayer or the pledge--points to the true religion. I have very mixed feelings about letting Liam say the pledge when he starts kindergarten this fall. I believe that allegiance to Christ and allegiance to country are rarely compatible. Foremost in our prayers should be a request for mercy for those times that our country acts in ways that do not reveal the cause and message of the Christ we so liberally claim to serve.

I love this Sarah. What a role model you are for Luke! You are lucky to be in a protected area. Our flag was flying so crazy wild on Memorial Day that it began to bend the pole! Al put it in the ground and did better but I don't think the flag was the optimal 15 feet plus off the ground.
