Our zoo has what is called "Twilight Tuesdays" during the month of July. They're open on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 - 8:30. Members (yes, we are members considering our multiple visits) get in with their membership as usual. Other patrons can get in for $1 with a voucher from "Cox Communications". (Don't ask me about where to get the voucher).
I suggested to Luke we go in the evening for a "change of pace". At first, he wasn't too keen on it, but I actually managed to convince him that a little change would be ok (Luke's not necessarily a fan of change).
We arrived a little before 6:00, and there was quite a line at the gate -- obviously a popular event. I will say (and I'm not being mean here) that a $1 admittance fee brings out interesting people. By no means did I at all feel unsafe, BUT it was a different crowd.
Overall, we had a good visit. After 7:00ish, the temperature was much more comfortable (we definitely sweated the first hour), and the animals were quite active -- so active, in fact, that I saw more involvement from Kate than I ever have at the zoo (which was fun, though challenging amongst crowds of people). Kate's in the all pink outfit (yes, I've become "that mother" of a girl).

We had a HARD time leaving the bears, compliments of Kate! She thoroughly enjoyed watching the bears and even threw a little fit upon leaving the bears...sigh...but, as a positive, it was FUN for me to see her get interested in the zoo (almost as much as Luke)....
I put this on Fecebook last night, BUT Luke is completely enthralled with wolves right now. We got to the North American wolf exhibit, and we could not find any wolf amongst the shrubs, bushes....Luke looked & looked through his binoculars.
I finally went against "normal" zoo etiquette (at least good etiquette when the zoo is this busy) and suggested we eat our packed supper at the exhibit. That way, we could watch for a wolf.
Unfortunately, we never saw one. Luke moped for a bit about it, but fortunately, we saw some other cool things so we could turn our visit into a positive one.
**The otters were quite active & cute.
**The bears were swimming.
**The tigers were fighting (playing).
** The alligator was out of the water & very near the glass for great viewing.
** AND -- the ultimate highlight for Luke -- The elephant went potty, and it was a lot of potty!
Luke had just received his new glasses that day. He was VERY careful with them and always handed them to me "to take care of" while he looked through the binoculars.

We went today and the weather was so pleasant! Did not feel like July at all! Jill told me that when she came with Hannah on the school trip that the elephant had LOTS of potty. A huge stream! Today, we got to see them doing lots of stunts (where the people check their health). No potty. But sure was smelly inside!
